Keystone Kares Supports Keep Tahoe Blue: Protecting Lake Tahoe for Future Generations
Lake Tahoe is one of the world’s most iconic and invaluable natural treasures – and we’re fortunate to have it right in our backyard. At Keystone, we believe it’s our responsibility as locals to support the efforts that preserve and protect this breathtaking environment for all current and future generations.
Supporting A Cause We All Care About
Through Keystone Kares, we’re dedicated to supporting causes our employees are most passionate about. This year, we were proud to donate $500 to Keep Tahoe Blue — a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and sustaining Lake Tahoe’s environmental health while preserving its iconic beauty.
This donation helps support programs focused on preserving the lake’s clarity, restoring natural habitats, and promoting long-term sustainability—protecting a place we all love and cherish.
“Growing up in Reno, I have spent many summers at Lake Tahoe. Keep Tahoe Blue’s mission is: …’protects and restores environmental health, sustainability, and scenic beauty of the Lake Tahoe Basin. We focus on water quality and its clarity for the preservation of a pristine Lake for future generations’. Lake Tahoe is a natural wonder that we need to protect for generations to come”
Why Keep Tahoe Blue Matters:
Lake Tahoe is a truly remarkable place:
- Water Volume: Enough water to cover a flat area the size of California to a depth of 14 inches
- Size: 22 miles long, 12 miles wide, with 72 miles of shoreline
- Surface Area: 191 square miles
- Depth: 1,645 feet – make it the second deepest lake in the U.S.
- Location: The lake bottom is 92 feet below Carson City, which sits at roughly 4,800 feet above sea level; Reno is about 4,500 feet above sea level
The organization’s mission protects and restores the environmental health, sustainability and scenic beauty of the Lake Tahoe Basin, with a focus on maintaining water quality and clarity for a pristine lake for future generations.
The organization also plays a vital role in advancing science-based conservation efforts – ranging from reducing pollution and implementing resilience solutions for a stronger environment, to supporting habitat restoration and fostering community involvement.
As Tahoe’s devoted protector and partner, they work to shape environmental policy while inspiring residents and visitors to cherish this extraordinary place in their daily lives – ensuring that the clear waters and pristine landscapes we all love remain resilient and vibrant for generations to come.
