IRS Expands Business Tax Account Online Services
The IRS is expanding the capabilities of its Business Tax Account (BTA), giving more businesses and organizations access to convenient online tools for managing their federal tax accounts. The latest enhancements are designed to make it easier for eligible taxpayers to access important tax information, review account details and complete certain transactions online—potentially reducing the need to contact the IRS by phone or submit paperwork.
New Self-Service Features
The expanded Business Tax Account now provides several additional capabilities, including:
Â
Access to IRS notices:Â Businesses can access an expanding library of digital IRS notices through their online accounts.
EIN verification notices:Â Eligible taxpayers can download notices verifying their Employer Identification Number (EIN).
Installment agreement information:Â Businesses can view information about existing IRS installment agreements.
Offer in Compromise payments:Â Taxpayers with an accepted Offer in Compromise can make required payments through their Business Tax Account.
These features give business owners and authorized representatives greater visibility into their federal tax accounts and provide additional options for handling routine tax matters electronically.
More Businesses Are Now Eligible
The IRS has also broadened eligibility for Business Tax Account access. Newly eligible users include certain sole proprietors with EINs, individual partners and shareholders who meet documentation requirements, S corporations, C corporations, government entities, tribal governments and tax-exempt organizations.
Â
The expansion represents another step in the IRS’s broader effort to modernize its online services and provide businesses with more convenient digital access to their tax information.
What This Means for Businesses
For business owners, having access to these tools can make managing federal tax obligations more efficient. Rather than waiting for paper correspondence or spending time navigating IRS telephone services, eligible businesses can increasingly handle account-related tasks online.
Â
Businesses should consider establishing or reviewing their Business Tax Account access, particularly if they have an existing installment agreement, an Offer in Compromise, or a need to regularly verify their EIN or access IRS notices.
Â
The IRS notes that Business Tax Account capabilities and eligibility continue to expand. As additional services become available, businesses may find the online account increasingly useful as a central resource for managing their federal tax affairs
